WSMR Classical - WSMR - FM 89.1 - Sarasota, FL

We enjoy your programs very much and are never disappointed with your music choices. Living in Sarasota we listen to 89.1 FM as the favorite. There is one issue however which needs to be addressed and that is distortion when the announcers introduce and talk about the various pieces played. This h see more... as been happening for weeks now and I'm surprised no one ever talked about it. I believe it is called over-modulation. Please check this out. Hans G Broemel . I'm a retired Hi-Fi aficionado and am frequently switching equipment to compare the various speakers in my possession.

I live in Largo and have not been able to get WSMR on my car radio for months now. But I do get a Gainesville station at the same frequency and a religiously oriented station from northern Florida. If I get lucky and pick up WSMR, it's full of static and interruptions from other stations, even whe see more... n I am in Sarasota. What's gone wrong with this station?

I live in South Pasadena. In the last couple of months or so I cannot get WSMR radio at all. It is a loud static or even louder some preacher shouting his sermon. It is really a shame what they have done to the only classical music around

In St. Petersburg I used to get WSMR. Now all I get is static. I wonder if that will change so I can receive the music again.

Ref the request program on Labor Day, "hats off!" to the persons who requested the closing scene of Act III of Eugene Onegin (extended opera you NEVER play) and the Saint-Saens SECOND Violin Concerto (you always play the Third). What originality, what curious minds, what adventurous forays into, an see more... d aesthetic rewards of, the seldom-played, vis-a-vis 98 percent of the other requests, which reflect what you play over and over, week end, week out. I wish that WSMR would take a tip from WFMT in Chicago. On their web site they have "what's playing now" AND you can order the CD with some of the money going to WFMT. Sometimes when you are listing to WSMR you don't catch the name of the composer and or the music so it's great to go to "what' s pla see more... ying now" and even better to order the CD!!

I used to be a regular supporter of WUSF radio in the old days, before they changed the format and relegated all of the classical music to their new station, WSMR. When they announced the pending format change and asked for contributions to support establishing WSMR, I made a contribution. WSMRT see more... came on the air and we couldn't receive it in Pinellas County. WSMR then told us that it was a problem with their broadcasting antenna, and they again asked for contributions and again I made a donation. The antenna was replaced and we STILL couldn't receive WSMR in Pinellas County. When questioned about it, the reply from WUSF/WSMR was: "WSMR was never intended to be anything other than a low power, limited range, local FM station." I don't know when the low-power FM station was set up for Tampa, as I couldn't receive WSMR to hear about it. And now it is my understanding that the Board of WUSF is seriously entertaining the sale of WUSF-TV's signal bandwidth, which will probably result in the end of WUSF-television. At the rate you're going, you'll be the most cash-rich, non-existent PBR/PRI organization in existence! So here's my interpretation of the situation from the day that WUSF/WSMR decided to change the WUSF format and create WSMR: You deliberately lied to us. You cheated us by asking for donations when you already knew that most of us in Pinellas Count would never be able to receive a usable signal, yet asked for and took our money anyway, assuring us that we'd all be able to hear our classical music, just as it was before the creation of WSMR. And here is my solution: I will NEVER AGAIN donate anything to either WUSF or WSMR until I receive WSMR's signal just as clearly and reliably as I receive that of WUSF. Well, I will say excellent too. This is the only one we got. I did move down here from Belmont-Boston- MA We did have also one station WCRB. All other channels are bunch of junk noise. It is also my question. How do I get the play list (program) information. PS: I am not an newspaper person. see more... Thank you. Andre.
